10 Christmas Makeup Looks That You Need To Try During the Holidays

There are plenty of reasons to love the holidays, but for us, Christmas makeup tops the list. Between family time, holiday gatherings, and the magical spirit in the air, it’s a great excuse to go all out with jewel tones and glitter. Even if you’re having a Zoom Christmas party this year, that’s all the more reason to go fun and bold with your holiday makeup look to get into the holiday spirit!

1. Jewel Toned Eyeshadow Looks

December comes with all the festive outings and holiday parties we could ask for. Instead of rocking your go-to monochromatic makeup, embrace a merry and bright spirit with jewel-toned eyeshadow.

Some of our favorite jewel-toned colors for the holidays include gold, sapphire blue, emerald green, and ruby red—just to name a few. These bold colors, however, are often thought to be tough to pull off because of those rich, beautiful pigments, but with a simple approach, even makeup newbies can nail the look!

All you need to do is grab your favorite Gilded Jewel Eyeshadow Palette and pick your favorite shade. Once you choose one of the super pigmented jewel-tone shadows, blend it along your eyelid from the lash line to the crease. Then, smudge it under your lower lash line to complete this stunning jewel-toned look.

2. The Glass Skin Effect

With all the mask-wearing going on these days, covering up blemishes with makeup has gotten that much trickier. Heavy concealers and foundations have a way of rubbing off under a facemask, giving you that dreaded two-toned look when you’re finally able to remove it.

That’s why, rather than focusing on your foundation woes, keeping breakouts to a minimum in the first place by taking care of your skin is more important than ever. And when you take care of your skin, you can experience the glass skin effect; poreless, dewy, and baby soft skin.

Glass skin is meant to evoke the idea of a crystal or glass, meaning it’s all about skin that looks breathtakingly clear and almost translucent. To achieve this, follow these steps below:

Step 1: Begin with a gentle cleanser.

Step 2: Exfoliate with a face scrub.

Step 3:  Use a hydrating toner.

Step 4: Apply a good quality hydrating serum.

Step 5: Layer on your favorite lightweight moisturizer.

Step 6: Apply your foundation. For this look, we love using a makeup sponge to get that light, airbrushed finish.

Step 7: Intensify the glow with a baked highlighter.

Step 8: Finish your look with an illuminating setting spray, so you know it’ll last all day.

3. Bold, Winged Eyeliner

A crisp cat-flick is up there with the most iconic makeup looks of all time and can instantly make your eyes look sultrier, and your lashes appear thicker—perfect for your next holiday get-together!

Here are five easy steps to create a bold, winged eyeliner:

Step 1: Start by priming your eyelids. Even if you're only working with eyeliner and not eyeshadow, it’s best to make sure your eyeliner doesn’t crease. Using your favorite Milani Eyeliner, start at the outer corner of your eye, using your lower lash line as a guide, and make one swift stroke.

Pro Tip: Want your eyes to appear wider? Draw the line upwards. Going for an elongated look? Draw the line outwards.

Step 2: Starting from the tip of the wing that you just created, bring the line back down, creating a triangle shape at the end of your eye.

Step 3: Then, starting from either the center of your eyelid or the inner corner, bring the liner towards the triangle that you created, using your lash line as a guide. You can make this line as thin or thick as you'd like.

Step 4: Take your liner and fill in the triangle and any other empty space you can see, so there are no gaps showing.

Step 5: Take a flat concealer brush and your favorite cream concealer and apply underneath the wing at the outer corner of your eye to make it as sharp as possible. Be sure to blend any visible concealer downwards with small, gentle swipes.

To create a perfect winged eyeliner, it’s important to make sure you use a top-quality liner like The Tank Eyeliner from Milani. Unlike other liners, this powerful liner features a unique storage tank that keeps all air out of the product to keep the formula fresh, giving you intense black pigments day after day, to create a cat-flick that even Audrey Hepburn would approve of!

4. Fluttery Mascara

Instead of a subtle mascara look, people are laying it on for a more dramatic effect. Reach for a great-quality mascara this holiday season like the Highly Rated - 10-IN-1 Volume Mascara from Milani. This luxurious 10-in-1 mascara builds, lifts, and dramatizes for sky-high lashes in a single stroke.

Additionally, the plant-based formula protects and conditions your lashes without smudging, flaking, or clumping—so it's perfect for both everyday and special occasion looks. But we have to warn you that wearing this mascara will come with a lot of people questioning whether your lashes are real or not. Yes, they will look that good!

5. Shimmery, Glowing Eyeshadow Looks

It’s the most glittery, shimmery, and sparkly time of the year! So add a little bit of glitz and glam to your holiday eye look with glimmering shadows. Although there are many different products on the market, we absolutely love Milani’s liquid eyeshadows

These powerfully prismatic, perfectly pigmented eyeshadows glimmer and shimmer, providing you with a celestial shine—perfect for any holiday occasion. On top of that, they’re incredibly easy to apply. Just swipe, blend, and you’re ready to go with a glam holiday look.

How To Apply Liquid Eyeshadow

Applying liquid eyeliner is easy:

Use the doe-foot applicator to gently apply your favorite Milani liquid eyeshadow directly to your lid. Blend it softly using the smart applicator or two clean fingers. For added intensity, gently pat color directly onto the center of your lid and let it dry.

Pro Tip: You can create beautiful and bold color schemes by layering the liquid eyeshadow on top of powder!

6. Bring On The Blush

Pair your holiday festivities this year with beautifully blushed cheeks (and noses, if you’re feeling that trend, too)! Not sure how to properly apply it? We’ll tell you:

Start By Identifying Your Face Shape

  • Oval Faces: tend to have prominent cheekbones and a forehead that’s slightly wider than the chin.

  • Square Faces: have a forehead that’s roughly the same width as the chin and cheekbones.

  • Heart-Shaped Faces: have high cheekbones and a wide forehead, and the face tapers to a narrow chin.

  • Round Faces: are typically as wide as they are long.

  • Long/Oblong: also known as “rectangular,” are similar to oval and square-shaped faces. The difference is, though, is that the face is longer and less wide. Your cheeks, jawline, and forehead will all be pretty much the same width.

Pick Your Blush

When it comes to picking the perfect blush, we often recommend choosing liquid or cream formulas because they are easier to blend and will give your cheeks a natural dewy effect.

However, if you prefer powder, be sure to get one that is made with top-quality ingredients, like Milani’s Baked Blush. These richly pigmented, highly buildable blushes feature satin and shimmery shades that work for every attitude. Baked blush season is every season—but especially the holiday season!

Apply Your Blush

  • To Balance an Oval Face: Use soft strokes starting at the most prominent part of your cheekbone, bringing the blush down towards your earlobe, and then blending up towards your temple.

  • To Define a Square Face: Apply your blush slightly below your cheekbone, starting low and moving outward toward your hairline.

  • To Flatter a Heart-Shaped Face: Apply your blush below the apples of your cheeks and blend outward to your hairline.

  • To Slim a Round Face: Sweep your favorite blush along your cheekbones and extend the color out to your temples.

  • To Soften a Long/Oblong Face: Blend your blush beneath the apples of your cheeks, but not out to your temples.

7. Vibrant Lower Lash Liner

When it comes to making a statement with your holiday eye makeup looks, it doesn’t get much better than swiping on a silky smooth, vibrant liner to your lower lash.

Step 1: Start With Primer

Dab a little bit of your favorite primer onto the area before reaching for your eyeliner pencil to help prevent smudging.

Step 2: Apply Your Eyeliner

Picking an eyeliner shade is a personal choice, and there’s no universal rule to it. You can keep it fun and bright or bring it more into the season with jewel tones or holiday colors. We love Milani’s Metallic Lights Foil Eyeliner Pencil because it comes in five shimmery metallic shades that yield intense pigmentation in just a single wipe.

Whatever color you choose, smudge it along your lower lash line, and rock this bold look all night long!

8. Fluffy Brows

Fluffy brows are on everyone's minds at the moment, but unfortunately for many of us, they're not on our faces naturally. Thankfully, mastering the art of this popular Christmas makeup look is not a difficult task.

Conquer the look by using a clear or slightly tinted brow gel like the Weekend Brow Eyebrow Tint. With a featherweight brush tip, superfine smudge-resistant pigments, and polymers for long-lasting wear, this super pen does it all. From fluffing up your brows to giving you that high arch look, your friends won't believe you when you tell them it wasn't microblading!

9. The Monochromatic Look

It might seem a little counterintuitive to choose a look based around one single color when it’s so much fun to layer pretty much all the shades in a palette. But monochrome makeup has an incredibly cool, editorial vibe, hence why it is trending in fashion, too!

To master this simple yet beautiful look, keep your eyes, lips, and cheeks the same color or variations of the same shade. For an extra Christmasy vibe, choose a rich cranberry tone, or for a more wintery feel, go for a frosty mauve.

10. Neutral Lip Looks

Okay, so we all know that deep, vampy red lips are the norm for the holiday season, but things are a little bit different this year with the current pandemic sweeping the nation. This holiday season, get the neutral look with a lipstick that's basically the same shade as your lips but adds just a bit more depth and intensity to your pout.

When tracking down the best color for you, look for a "my lips, but better" color like the Salt-N-Pepa Shoop Lipstick from Milani. This beautiful shade is perfect for achieving the covetable universal nude lip and is sure to give you the perfect pout!

In Summary

They say it’s the most wonderful time of the year—and that’s especially true when it comes to your beauty routine. Because if there is ever a time to experiment with sparkling eyes, rosy cheeks, and major glow, the holiday party circuit is certainly it!

And although this season might be spent social distancing, that doesn’t mean you can’t—or shouldn’t—create a fabulous makeup look for your next Zoom or Skype party! Grab your makeup bag, perch yourself in front of a mirror, and get to work playing with our beautiful Christmas makeup looks listed above.

All it takes is a little bit of makeup from Milani, a dash of creativity, and of course—a soul-warming cup of hot cocoa—and you’re on your way to creating your best makeup look yet.
